Dark Sky Project and Dark Sky Diner: open

Dark Sky Project and Dark Sky Diner are open. The Diner is open from 9am to 7pm daily. In accordance with Ministry of Health guidelines, all customers entering the Dark Sky Project building (which includes Dark Sky Diner) will be required to complete our Guest Register. You will need to provide names of everyone in your group and contact details (mobile number or email).


Dark Sky Diner: open with modified menu and hours

Dark Sky Diner is open from 9am to 7pm daily, offering a reduced menu, cabinet food and hot and cold drinks. Please note we have changed our table setting to ensure safe physical distancing and will monitor guest numbers and other operational procedures to ensure they are in line with Ministry of Health recommendations. 


Astro Cafe: closed until further notice

The Astro Café is closed until further notice. The vehicle access road will remain open from 10am - 4.30pm; normal road access fees apply (learn more). The walking tracks remain open. Toilet facilities at the summit will be closed. 


Customer cancellations

We appreciate the travel restrictions that came into effect 1am NZST on 16 March will impact customers who have booked in advance. We are offering refunds in line with our cancellation policy. Please contact our friendly team on +64 3 680 6960 for assistance.


All international customers: proof of arrival date required

Please note we require proof of your arrival date into New Zealand (e.g. passport or boarding pass) when you check in for a tour or visit Dark Sky Project or Dark Sky Diner. 


Operational changes to tours

Tours are operating. We have reduced tour group numbers and changed transport arrangements to ensure physical distancing. We will continue to monitor and adjust our operational procedures in line with Ministry of Health recommendations.
